Overview
Rachna VR is an innovative VR game that transforms the traditional art of Indian painting into an immersive digital experience. Set inside a majestic Gothic cathedral, the game centers on a jigsaw puzzle featuring the iconic painting "Girl with Parrot." Originally conceived during a brainstorming session for our VR installation project, we evolved the idea into a game format to showcase the interplay of heritage and technology.

The Journey
Our journey began with an open ideation session where we explored various concepts for an interactive installation. Initially, we considered multiple ideas, but the vision of integrating a traditional Indian painting into a VR puzzle experience resonated strongly with the team. After detailed discussions and feasibility checks with our faculty, we refined our idea into a VR game that would be both engaging and respectful of its cultural roots.

Team & Roles
The project was a collective effort, where we all contributed across different aspects to bring the vision to life. I took the initiative in managing the project, ensuring we stayed on track while also working hands on with Unity to shape the gameplay experience. Bhakti played a crucial role in crafting the 3D environment in Blender, breathing life into the cathedral setting and puzzle elements. Ronit contributed to the Unity development, assisting in refining interactions and making sure the game functioned smoothly within the VR space. While each of us had areas we focused on, the process was fluid brainstorming, troubleshooting, and refining the experience together.

Process & Development
Ideation & Brainstorming:
We started by gathering our team for a series of brainstorming sessions, sketching out various concepts. Ideas were mapped, debated, and ultimately prioritized based on feasibility and potential for audience engagement.

Concept Finalization:
With faculty input and practical constraints in mind, we honed in on the idea of a VR game set in a Gothic cathedral. The focus was on a jigsaw puzzle of the "Girl with Parrot" painting a piece that embodies traditional Indian artistry in a subtle yet powerful way.

Production Under Time Crunch:
Working as a tight-knit group of three, we divided the responsibilities:
Bhakti led the 3D modeling of the cathedral and the puzzle pieces.
Ronit built the interactive VR environment in Unity, integrating motion controls and physics to simulate the floating puzzle pieces.
I coordinated the project, refined the user experience, and ensured the narrative was woven seamlessly into the game design.

Testing & Presentation:
In our VR lab, we conducted rapid prototyping and iterative testing. The final product was presented at CREA 5.0 a college industrial department fest followed by a showcase at Ahmedabad Design Week (ADW 6.0). The response was overwhelmingly positive, with over 100 visitors experiencing and engaging with the game.

My Experience
Working on Rachna VR was a transformative experience. It was not just about creating a visually appealing game, but about crafting an experience that bridges traditional art and modern technology. The project taught us:
The power of collaboration under time constraints.
The importance of balancing artistic integrity with interactive design.
How cultural heritage can be reimagined in a digital landscape to engage a broader, tech-savvy audience.
